What is a Poké Bowl? Origin, ingredients and why it's so popular

The poké bowl is a dish originally from Hawaii that has become a worldwide food phenomenon. Its name comes from the Hawaiian word "poke", meaning "to slice into pieces", and perfectly describes its essence: fresh ingredients cut up and served over a base.

Origin of the Poké Bowl

Hawaiian fishermen began making poké centuries ago, marinating the scraps of the fish they caught with sea salt, seaweed and kukui nuts. What started as a way to make the most of fresh fish turned into a dish with an identity all its own.

In the 2010s, poké jumped from the islands to the west coast of the United States and from there to the rest of the world, adapting to local tastes without losing its essence: freshness, balance and flavour.
